Lose 5 Stones With The Gold Air Filled Gastric
Balloon
At the National Gastric Balloon Centre (N.G.B.C) we
know all too well that tackling obesity is not just about controlling how much you eat and how little you excercise - it's
more than that. Our team of experts also understand that despite all your efforts to control weight, you have still struggled
on. You've probably tried different and varied diet plans including medication but only to regain the weight later.
Obesity has been described as a "national epidemic" by
most health experts in the UK. Approximately 49% men and 29% women are clinically overweight (this means they have a BMI of
greater than 25). Of these 13% men and 16% women are obese (this group of individuals have a BMI of 30 or greater). A proportion
of these have a BMI of more than 35 placing them in the morbid obesity group.

The underlying problems and issues faced by patients who
are obese affect not only their social lifes put place them at a greater risk from developing many health conditions such
as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and asthma. In women it can cause painful heavy periods, infertility and urinary incontinence.
Statistically obesity increases the risk of developing
cancers of the breast, uterus, cervix and ovary in woman and prostate in men. Both sexes have increased risk of developing
intestinal cancer of the large bowel and rectum. Overall you are likely to die younger if you are overweight.
Many of these weight-related problems can go away if a
person is able to lose the extra weight and keep it off.
Non Surgical Treatment Using The Gold Heliosphere
This is why we want to offer treatments that are very effective
and a permanent solution
to keep off the weight when combined with a good weight loss control programme.
We are the only private healthcare organisation to offer the Air Filled Intra-Gastric Balloon. Our technology offers the patient a much better
alternative to liquid filled devices that are known to cause severe symptoms such as vomitting, nausea, stomach cramps and dehydration that
persist for more than a few days. In some patients these symptoms can be so severe that they have the liquid filled balloon removed
very early (2 weeks to 3 months).
One of the key advantages of using a lighter balloon is that there is less chance of
it leaking, unlike the liquid balloons. Liquid balloons are very porous and they leak during the implantation period. You
probably won't notice this because it leaks very slowly, so you won't feel as full when the balloon was first implanted, this
means you are likely to eat more and lose less weight. It also means that there is a chance of it becoming dislodged in the
small bowel if it leaks too much, this is why a blue dye has been put in but is still not effective as a clear warning
system if it spontaneously bursts. On contrast, the Heliosphere air-filled balloon is coated with pure gold on the inside
(a fail safe mechanism). This prevents air atoms from escaping through the gold layer, in fact air leakage with the gold air
balloon is impossible! The result is a longer lasting balloon that maintains its capacity to its original volume when inserted.

No Potent Pre-Drug Therapy Before Implantation

Above all using the Heliosphere we don't need you to take lots of medication
5 days prior to and up to 4 weeks after insertion of the balloon. However patients who have a liquid balloon implanted require
lots of anti-emetics, PPI drugs between 2-4 weeks!
The Heliosphere is filled with pure air, about 650cc of air which is then compressed
in the balloon to 550cc of air resulting in a total weight of the balloon being less than 30g. Your body tolerates the Heliosphere significantly better and symptoms last for a short period
of time (a couple of days). In a very small number of patients this can be slightly longer but overall significantly less
than using liquid filled devices. Symptoms are also less severe because of the unique way our Heliosphere balloon works; it
sits at the top part of your stomach and does not sink down and move around so much.
Liquid balloons are also very heavy and require up to half a litre of saline
(between 650-750cc), inserted into the balloon resulting in a huge ball of liquid floating around, this is very uncomfortable causing severe
sickness.
Did you also know that liquid balloons can become infected? You could have mould
growth in the saline causing a severe infection. This would mean immediate removal and you will have to pay again to have
another balloon inserted if this happens early. The liquid balloons also leak, if the infected saline does leak out it can
cause a severe internal infection, this could be life-threatening. In contrast the air balloon carries a zero risk of infection
due to the gold coating and air used to inflate the balloon (sterile air).
From our experience in talking to patients who have had liquid balloon implantation in the UK, up to 52% of patients
had the balloon removed less than 6 months after implantation (from 2 weeks to 3 months) because of intolerance problems (310
patients interviewed between 2006-2007). That equates to about £805,000 wasted. These patients never lost their potential
maximum weight and could not have a refund. So why risk spending up to £5,000+ and not see any real benefit? Find out the
facts before your treatment!
